Make Your Own Washi Tape Background Tutorial by Amy

Hello PPRS fanatics! Washi tape seems to be all the rage right now. Crafters have been using it in their cardmaking, mini albums, SMASH books, and many other projects and while there are so many different kinds and colors available, sometimes there is just not the right kind available at your fingertips. Today, I am going to show you how to make your own customizable washi tape that you can create to match any project you desire.

Supplies Needed:

Amy 1

•    Low-tack medical tape (I used Johnson & Johnson Paper Tape, Painless Removal, Ideal for Post-Surgery kind)
•    A non-stick craft sheet
•    Your favorite PPRS stamps. I’ve used Mini Butterflies Clear Stamps Set.
•    Waterproof ink (Ranger Archival Ink or Staz-On) or Memento ink if you’re using Copics
•    Coloring medium (I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam; you could use Copic markers, Lindy’s Starburst Sprays, Glimmer mist, pretty much any kind of painting/coloring medium)

Amy 2
Rip a small piece of tape off your roll and lay it flat on your craft sheet. Make sure there aren’t any air bubbles or ripples underneath your tape.

Amy 3
Ink up your favorite PPRS stamps with your waterproof ink.  Be sure to use waterproof ink or your medium will make the ink run.

Amy 4
Stamp images onto paper tape using firm, even pressure.

Amy 5
Now comes the fun part: coloring your tape! I used a small paint brush and used my Glimmer Glam like watercolors.

Amy 6
When you’re done coloring, you should have something like this.

Amy 7
You can either let it air dry on your craft sheet or take a heat gun and dry it briefly. It’s perfectly fine if the tape is still a little damp.

Amy 8
Apply tape to your project. If the tape hangs over the edge, don’t worry about it. You can trim it off when you’re done.

Amy 9
Repeat the process using the same or different stamps. The possibilities are endless!

Amy 10
Add patterned paper and embellishments to finish off your card! I hope you enjoyed this little creative tip! Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Cuteness from Jenny

Hi! Here is a super cute card from Jenny using the adorable Duck in Tub stamp from the Prickley Pear Spring Release.

Check out the water – it’s covered with crackle accent!

Here are the Copic Markers Jenny used for the image. After coloring the duck, Jenny went back over the Duck adding small little dots with Y23, the darkest yellow of the group. The little dots helped give the duck a little bit of texture.
