Make Your Own Washi Tape Background Tutorial by Amy

Hello PPRS fanatics! Washi tape seems to be all the rage right now. Crafters have been using it in their cardmaking, mini albums, SMASH books, and many other projects and while there are so many different kinds and colors available, sometimes there is just not the right kind available at your fingertips. Today, I am going to show you how to make your own customizable washi tape that you can create to match any project you desire.

Supplies Needed:

Amy 1
•    Low-tack medical tape (I used Johnson & Johnson Paper Tape, Painless Removal, Ideal for Post-Surgery kind)
•    A non-stick craft sheet
•    Your favorite PPRS stamps. I’ve used Mini Butterflies Clear Stamps Set.
•    Waterproof ink (Ranger Archival Ink or Staz-On) or Memento ink if you’re using Copics
•    Coloring medium (I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam; you could use Copic markers, Lindy’s Starburst Sprays, Glimmer mist, pretty much any kind of painting/coloring medium)

Amy 2
Rip a small piece of tape off your roll and lay it flat on your craft sheet. Make sure there aren’t any air bubbles or ripples underneath your tape.

Amy 3
Ink up your favorite PPRS stamps with your waterproof ink.  Be sure to use waterproof ink or your medium will make the ink run.

Amy 4
Stamp images onto paper tape using firm, even pressure.

Amy 5
Now comes the fun part: coloring your tape! I used a small paint brush and used my Glimmer Glam like watercolors.

Amy 6
When you’re done coloring, you should have something like this.

Amy 7
You can either let it air dry on your craft sheet or take a heat gun and dry it briefly. It’s perfectly fine if the tape is still a little damp.

Amy 8
Apply tape to your project. If the tape hangs over the edge, don’t worry about it. You can trim it off when you’re done.

Amy 9
Repeat the process using the same or different stamps. The possibilities are endless!

Amy 10
Add patterned paper and embellishments to finish off your card! I hope you enjoyed this little creative tip! Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Guest Aritist -Gini Williams Cagle

We have two more beautiful cards we would like to share with you. Guest Designer Gini did such a beautiful job on the next couple of cards we just had to share. We love her use of color, the textures that she puts together on each design and her attention to detail. To see more of her work click here.

For the first card, Gini used the Flourished Eiffel Tower and the paris red rubber stamps. She did such a beautiful job pairing the fun spring colors of lime green, violet flowers and blue accents.
For her second card she use the Clearly Hibiscus Clear set and matching die. I love how she used a frayed denim for the ribbon of this card. Beautiful job Gini! Stay tuned as we have two more beautiful cards we will be sharing of hers the end of this month!

Cuteness from Jenny

Hi! Here is a super cute card from Jenny using the adorable Duck in Tub stamp from the Prickley Pear Spring Release.

Check out the water – it’s covered with crackle accent!

Here are the Copic Markers Jenny used for the image. After coloring the duck, Jenny went back over the Duck adding small little dots with Y23, the darkest yellow of the group. The little dots helped give the duck a little bit of texture.

Thanks for stopping by!

Guest Designer - Gini Williams Cagle

We are so excited to be having Gini on as a guest designer this month. We will be posing different projects Gini has done to share with you all throughout the month. Her work is so beautiful, we are thrilled to have her this month!

A little about Gini - in her words
I have been crafting all of my life, in one form or another. I was a very successful bead artist. My work was published in over a dozen books and magazines, and I lectured and taught all over the country, beaded pieces took 500-1000 hours to complete. About 10 years ago, I started scrapbooking, when my first nephew was born. I instantly fell in love with the immediacy of the medium (compared to the crazy hours I spent beading!) In the past several years, I have really gotten serious with the craft and love finding new ways to take my pieces to the next level.  It's really funny to look at any of my work, from beadwork to paper and to be able to see the same style emerge, regardless of the medium.  I have always loved dimension, and color and layers.

Paper crafting is really a family thing for me. My sister and I used to get together once a week to craft, but now she has moved right next door, so it's one big paper party! I can't leave out that my six year old nephew thinks it's really cool to scrapbook with his aunt and mommy! My husband doesn't ever craft with me, but he is my biggest cheerleader, and is always supportive of what I do. We have been married for almost three years. We have a fairytale romance - we knew each other in high school and were friends, but went over 20 years without any contact, and reconnected on Facebook and quickly knew we were meant to be together. I work as a dental hygienist, so creating with paper is always a welcomed release! Some of Gini's work!
